HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS OF CYLINDERS ROTATING IN ENCLOSURES

Existing relationships for the heat transfer coefficients from cylinders are extended to consider the effect of rotation in enclosures. Experimental measurements of the heat transfer parameters are carried out for a range of enclosure sizes and a marked dependence of Nusselt Number upon the enclosure size is detected at low rotational speeds.

The effect is attributed to a self-induced recirculating flow within the enclosure and the results are correlated by an expression previously established for heat transfer coefficients from cylinders subjected to a crossflow.
