This experiment reveals the quantitative aspect and behavior of vapor void on a horizontal heating surface in saturated pool boiling of water by the use of a Probe Method. The site density in nucleate boiling was measured. The distributions of time-average void fraction in three boiling regions, and the thickness of liquid-rich layer on the heating surface were measured. Many experiments were conducted with respect to the behavior of primary and secondary bubbles. Several points of boiling mechanism were made clear especially for burnout and transition boiling.
