AN EXPERIMENTAL AND ANALYTICAL STUDY OF A THERMOSIPHON-TYPE THERMAL ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM
摘要
This paper describes a study of the flow and
thermal behavior of a thermal energy storage water
tank system in which the source of heating is in a
side-arm line exterior to, but connected with, the
storage tank itself. Buoyancy forces in the
side-arm, as a result of water heating, produce a
thermosiphon action causing water flow both in the
side-arm and in the tank. A small scale laboratory
system was designed, fabricated and tested
experimentally. An electrical heater in the sidearm
line was used as the heat source. Experimental
determinations of water flow rates and temperature
profiles in the storage tank are given. In addition,
predicted results obtained from a computer
solution of the equations describing conservation
of mass, momentum and energy are presented and are
compared with the experimental results.
