摘要

This paper deals with the case where a variable heat source is used to heat equipment that must not exceed a given temperature. If the source and the equipment are connected by means of a heat pipe, the necessary control can be obtained by designing the heat pipe to decrease rapidly in conductance at the limiting temperature. This can be done very simply by selecting the charge quantity so that all of the working fluid is vapour at the design temperature.
It has been shown experimentally that this is a practical method. The conductance of the heat pipe falls to virtually zero at the design temperature. For a simple wickless heat pipe, an analysis is given for finding the minimum quantity of liquid present for normal operation, making possible an approximate calculation of the interval over which dryout takes place.
