Heat transfer coefficients between dispersed liquid-liquid systems and vertical transfer surfaces have been determined experimentally. If the surface is wetted only by the continuous phase the heat transfer coefficient depends mainly on the properties of the continuous phase and on the superficial velocity of the dispersed phase. Experimental data can be described by employing dimensionless numbers in the form: Nu = f(Re,Pr). The Reynolds number is formed with the relative velocity between the drops and the continuous phase and with a modified hydraulic diameter. Experimental Nusselt numbers are compared with wellknown correlations for the heat transfer on a flat plate. Wetting phenomena on transfer surfaces influencing the heat transfer coefficients were experimentally investigated.
