摘要

This paper presents mass and heat transfer rates downstream of sudden expansions produced by circular pipes issuing into ducts of square cross-section. An electrochemical technique was employed to determine the axial distributions of the cross-stream, planar-averaged transfer coefficients. In all cases, a well-defined peak was observed and these maxima were found to be up to 17 times greater than the values associated with fully-developed flow in a square duct. The peak mass transfer data were correlated by means of a simple power-law dependence on the Reynolds number and the expansion ratio. Data are presented for area expansion ratios of 5,11,20 and 45 and the Reynolds number in the outlet square duct was varied from 2,000 to 20,000.
