摘要

Results are presented from a study to determine thermal and hydrodynamic conditions associated with natural convection from a heated horizontal cylinder in a shallow water layer. These conditions are strongly influenced by both finite medium (space ratio) and air-water interface effects. The effects are combined in terms of a shallowness parameter, and attempts are made to correlate heat transfer results in terms of this parameter. Flow visualization studies suggest the existence of recirculation effects, which provide cylinder heat transfer rates larger than those associated with an infinite medium.
