摘要

Local evaporation rates were measured by means of radioactive tracer techniques. T1204 in the form of a dilute thallium nitrate solution was used as the tracer.
At low temperature, the results confirmed published local transfer relationships in a laminar boundary layer and hence demonstrated the accuracy of the method for measuring the rate of heat transfer. At high temperatures, however, there is evidence that evaporation does not proceed from the surface only, but also occurs in the turbulent boundary layer as a result of droplet entrainment by the vapour evolved.
