摘要

An experimental program was developed to examine banks of flexible tubes made of "Teflon" material with air flowing across the tubes and steam condensing inside. The effect of the following parameters on the pressure drop and heat transfer is investigated: Reynolds number of the flow, tube free length, tube temperature and number of rows in a bank. The experimental pressure drop and heat transfer coefficients are reported for Reynolds numbers ranging from 400 to 8,000. This range includes the transition region observed in metal tube bundles. During the experiments it was observed that tubes vibrated with low frequencies and high amplitudes. The vibrations significantly affected the heat and momentum transfer characteristics on the air side of the tubes. Thus, both the outside heat transfer coefficients and the pressure drop observed were substantially higher than in an equivalent array of rigid tubes.
