摘要

Approximate methods are developed for the solution of inverse heat conduction problems with unknown initial conditions. Two approaches are developed for the solution of the initial condition, and they include an integration method and a series-expansion method. For the temperature data provided for input in the solution, two modes of operation are tested, one sampling the temperature at one of the boundary but at different times, the other sampling the temperature at the same time but at different interior points. An example is provided to test the accuracy of the solution methods developed. Difficulties encountered in the solution of the problem are discussed in the paper, and finally an optimum procedure for the solution of the inverse problem is also provided.
