摘要

An experimental investigation has been carried out to determine the full-field heat transfer on the inner surface of two annular ducts, in freely decaying swirl airflow, downstream of a radial vane swirl generator. Two annular ducts with diameter ratios of 0.66 and 0.79 were used. The surface temperature of the test specimens were measured using micro-encapsulated liquid crystals. From these measurements, convective heat transfer coefficients were evaluated by a transient thermal analysis of the walls of the test specimens using numerical methods.
The test specimens were heated by an airflow where the Reynolds number varied from 4 000 to 15 000 with a constant inlet swirl number of approximately one. An analysis of the liquid crystal patterns was used to determine the swirl number downstream from the generator.
The ratio of the heat transfer coefficients for swirl flow to non-swirl flow was found to vary from 1.4 to 2.6 between exit and about ten hydraulic diameters from the swirl generator for the annular ducts and Reynolds number range investigated.
