Heat 'Transfer on the Surface of a Cylinder Rotating in an Annulus at High Axial and Rotational Reynolds Numbers
摘要
Results from an extensive experimental programme
are presented for rotor drum surface heat transfer in
an annulus. The results are applicable to turbomachinery
rotors, drums and electric motors and generators.
An axial throughflow of air in the annulus was
achieved using a downstream blower acting in suction
giving axial Reynolds numbers (Re = ρVzDh/μ) up
to 3·7 × 105. The rotor, of diameter 400mm, was spun at speeds up to 10000rpm, giving rotational Reynolds numbers (Reø = ρωri2/μ) up to 3 × 106. The surface
heat transfer was measured using heat flux meters
and thermocouples inlayed in to the surface. In addition
a finite element thermal analysis of the experimental
rig was undertaken as further validification of
the results. A correlation is presented for the Nusselt
number as a function of axial and rotational speed.
