摘要

Heat/mass transfer and pressure loss characteristics of staggered arrays of short fins are studied using three fin shapes; one uniform-diameter circular fin and two stepped-diameter circular fins. The results show that the stepped-diameter circular-fin arrays yield higher heat transfer rate and smaller pressure loss than the uniform-diameter circular-fin array. The effect of fin shape on fluid flow is also investigated using oil and lampblack flow visualization. It is found that the upwash and downwash flow induced by the stepwise reduction of diameter alters the flow structure significantly on both the fin surface and the endwalls.
