摘要

The influence of the increase of the aspect ratio height/length on the heat transfer by natural convection inside a tall cavity heated from below and symmetrically cooled from the sides is studied. Constant temperature is specified on the heated Boor and on the cooled sides. Laminar and two-dimensional steady now is assumed, and the problem is solved numerically using a streamfunction-vorticity formulation. Results are obtained for air for the Rayleigh number based on the cavity height in the range 103 - 107. The Nusselt number is determined as a function of the Rayleigh number and the aspect ratio. The occurrence of an incomplete thermal penetration depth in the vertical direction is analysed as a function of the aspect ratio and Rayleigh number. A scale analysis is performed in order to better understand the phenomenon.
