摘要

The local heat/mass transfer characteristics in the developing region of a rectangular channel (aspect ratio = 2:1) with/without rib-roughnesses on its long side walls have been investigated experimentally by the naphthalene sublimation method, directing special attention to the spanwise variations of the local mass transfer coefficients. In the smooth channel, the laminar boundary layers first develop near the channel entrance, and then begin to transit to turbulent ones from the channel corners. Thus the local mass transfer rates vary in both the streamwise and spanwise directions. In the ribbed channel also, the local mass transfer rates between the ribs vary in the spanwise direction as well as the streamwise direction near the channel entrance. The influence of the rib height on the mass transfer rate is more pronounced in the region near the channel corner than near the spanwise centerline.
