摘要

A numerical model is presented for computing the flow and heat transfer over herringbone corrugated fins (Fig. 1). The model is based on the commercial CFD code Star-CD, and uses the high-Re k-ε model with logarithmic wall functions to compute the flow in the fully-turbulent flow regime. The model is used to investigate the influence of the geometrical parameters on the flow and heat transfer characteristics of the fins, and to determine an optimum fin geometry at an operational Reynolds number of 1500. To determine the overall accuracy of the model, comparisons are presented between computed and measured Fanning friction factor and Colburn modulus. The computations and measurements are shown to be in quite close agreement in the turbulent regime, but in only fair agreement in the laminar regime, and it is suggested that better agreement might be achieved in the laminar regime by solving the time-dependent forms of the conservation equations.
