摘要

The identification of a suitable heat exchanger is a critical element in the development of any thermal system. Its performance greatly affects the operation of other components in the system, and the overall system output.
As part of a characterization study, a test apparatus for evaluating heat exchangers was constructed at Queen's University, in Kingston. A number of commercially available compact heat exchangers, intended for use in a solar energy applications, were evaluated and characterized.
This paper reviews conventional heat transfer theory, as applied to compact heat exchangers, and presents the results of compact heat exchanger testing. These results are then analyzed and practical performance indices identified.
