This study investigates numerically the effect of modulation of boundary thermal conditions on the concentration field in the vicinity of the solid/liquid interface for low Prandtl number melt flow (Pr = 0.01) in an inverted vertical Bridgman configuration (heated from below). Computational results showed that modulation can significantly affect the distribution of the solute in the vicinity of the interface and result in the transition of the flow from a one cell to a two cell structure. Variations in the average flow and interface concentrations are presented as functions of modulation frequency and amplitude of the thermal boundary excitation are presented.
