摘要

Abstract: The radiative energy absorbed by an eccentric annulus is calculated and compared to the energy absorption by a cylindrical annulus, in which the annulus is made of participating media. The Monte Carlo ray-tracing method, in which the position and the direction of each ray are randomly generated, is used to compute the overall absorption. Different parameters such as the ratio of the inner and outer radii, absorption coefficient of the material and the level of eccentricity are considered. The limits of the parameters are identified where the absorption in the eccentric cylinder is approximately equal to the energy absorption in the annulus. In this analysis all surfaces are treated as Fresnel boundaries and the effect of the boundary on the limits is discussed. Results obtained for a single eccentric annulus are extended to predict the energy absorption during the fabrication of microstructured photonic crystal optical fibers.
