A Comparison Study of State-of-the-Art Experimental and Numerical Simulation Results Associated with Nucleate Boiling of a Single Bubble
摘要
A systematic comparison study between high quality experiment and numerical simulation of nucleate boiling was conducted with focus on local liquid-vapor phase and heat transfer distribution underneath a vapor bubble growing on the heated wall. Boiling experiments of de-ionized water were performed on an IR-opaque and visible-transparent thin film heater deposited on an infrared- and visible-transparent substrate. By applying the synchronized total reflection and infrared thermometry technique to the boiling sample, the liquid-vapor phase and the surface temperature and heat flux distributions underneath a growing bubble were simultaneously obtained. The spatial and temporal resolutions in the experiment were 32-80 ????m and 0.083-0.83 ms, respectively. On the other hand, nucleate boiling process of a single bubble was simulated using the MARS (Multi-interface Advection and Reconstruction Solver) including a non-empirical boiling and condensation model. The grid size and time step in the simulation were 30-60 ????m and 10 ????s, respectively. A simple comparative analysis between the experimental and numerical simulation results with such high spatial and temporal resolutions is demonstrated as a preliminary study for the precise modeling of nucleate boiling heat transfer phenomenon and the development of high fidelity numerical simulation codes.
