Steam Flow Condensation in Semi-Circular and Square Mini-Channels

This study examines the effects of channel shape on condensation of steam, a high surface tension fluid. Condensation heat transfer coefficients were measured in 1-mm hydraulic channels square and semi-circular channels for a range of qualities (0.08 < x < 0.9) and mass fluxes (75 < G < 200 kg/m2s). Heat transfer coefficients increased with increasing quality, and few effects of shear forces were noted in this mass flux range. Over the range of tested conditions, the hannels did not experience substantial surface tension enhancement. The data were compared to previous work with refrigerants, and the trends are discussed.
