Abstract

An analysis of high-velocity condensing vapor flowing cocurrently with a subcooled liquid jet in a variable cross section duct is presented. From a model describing the interphase energy exchange mechanism in analogy with Prandtl mixing length theory for free turbulent jets it is concluded that the liquid jet Stanton number is equal to a single empirically determined constant. The vapor-liquid interfacial shear stress is determined from a model which considers the effect of mass transfer at the interface. Predictions of axial pressure profiles calculated from the governing equations are compared with available experimental pressure profiles for convergent and constant area condensing test sections.
