Abstract

Experimental results for pool boiling heat transfer from a horizontal copper tube to SF6,CF3Br and to five mixtures of these substances at saturation pressures from 56 to 97 per cent of the critical pressure are presented. The critical states of the mixtures were determined and the heat transfer coefficient as well as the composition of the liquid and the vapour phase were measured at constant values of the normalized saturation pressure p/pc. The relative increase of the heat transfer coefficient ε with increasing heat flux and increasing saturation pressure is found to be remarkably smaller for the mixtures than for the pure substances. Therefore the deterioration of boiling heat transfer to mixtures, in comparison with the pure substances , which is well-known for low and medium saturation pressures, is still more pronounced at very high pressures; it increases continuously up to the critical point.
