Abstract

The horizontal profiles of gravity driven liquid films flowing on vertically grooved surfaces are evaluated for two cases. The first case represents flow of relatively thin films over grooves with relatively small periodicity and amplitude. In the second case, the grooves are relatively small, closely spaced. The flow is then characterized by thick films which flow inside the grooves and with eventual overflooding of the grooves and the formation of a flat liquid interface. Relatively simple calculation procedures are proposed and some representative heat transfer data are also presented.
