Abstract

For the situation of two-phase two-component (gas-liquid) forced convective heat transfer in co-current upward flow in a vertical tube, an extensive set of data (glycerine-air, 75% glycerine in water solution-air, water-air, water-helium and water-Freon 12) taken on one apparatus was correlated using the combination of coordinates orginally proposed by Fried for horizontal two-phase two-component flow. The correlation is of the form
ψ2 = (φ2)n
where n depends slightly on the flow pattern, ψ2 is a ratio of heat-transfer coefficients and φ2 is a ratio of frictional pressure drops. A single correlation independent of the flow pattern is possible giving n = 0.451 with an rms deviation of the data of 19.0% for the 367 data points included in the analysis. The range of data was: ReSL 1.8 to 1.3×105; PrL 5.6 to 7000; VSG/VSL 0.013 to 5200; pG/pL 2×10−4 to 0.01.
