Abstract

The purpose of this study is to couple the two equations K-ε model for the turbulent core with a general surface renewal model of the turbulent burst phenomenon for the wall region. Numerical computations are obtained for heat transfer characteristics associated with tube flow which are in good agreement with experimental data over a wide range of Prandtl number. Although the present application deals with constant property fully turbulent well developed tube flow, the underlying model of wall turbulence is felt to provide a fundamental basis for generalization to account for other factors such as variable properties, strong pressure gradients, transitional turbulence, etc.
