Abstract

Flow and heat-transfer characteristics have been predicted by a finite-difference procedure for turbulent steady flow in rectangular ducts of aspect ratios 2:1, 1:1, 1:2 rotating around a perpendicular axis, with uniform heat flux through the duct walls. Both the developing and the fully-developed flow situations were examined. Rotation was found to increase the heat-transfer and friction coefficients. A comparison of the different flow geometries tested showed that the effect of the rotation on the flow and heat transfer was only weakly dependent on the aspect ratio of the duct.
