FILM BOILING AND REWETTING HEAT TRANSFER DURING BOTTOM FLOODING OF A HOT TUBE

Abstract

This paper describes the results of an experiment in which an initially heated tube is quenched at a constant flow rate by bottom flooding. The parametric effects of inlet subcooling, mass flow rate, wall thickness and heat generation rate on the rewetting velocity are studied. A qualitative explanation of these effects on the rewetting rate in terms of axial conduction is presented.
Approximate values of the film boiling heat transfer coefficient have been derived from the temperature-time transients of the heated surface, the results are in approximate agreement with Bromley's film boiling correlation.
