EFFECT OF THE DIRECTION OF ON-COMING VAPOR ON LAMINAR FILMWISE CONDENSATION ON A HORIZONTAL CYLINDER

Abstract

A theoretical study is reported of laminar filmwise condensation on a horizontal cylinder under the influence of combined body force and forced convection. The analysis is carried out by applying an approximate method due to Shekriladze-Gomelauri for two special cases where the flows of on-coming vapor are in parallel directions (1) with a vertical plane which includes the axis of a cylinder and (2) with a vertical plane perpendicular to the axis. Numerical results which show the effect of the velocity and direction of on-coming vapor on heat transfer are presented graphically. Approximate expressions of heat-transfer coefficient are also proposed.
