Abstract

The effect of thermal stratification on mass diffusion in a turbulent boundary layer is investigated here analytically. The turbulent viscosity is governed by a differential rate equation in which various mechanisms of turbulence including thermal stratification are represented. The temperature field affects not only the mean velocity but also the turbulent structure. The concentration field considered is that of a mass diffusion from a continuous crosswind line source at ground level. The system of partial differential equations is solved by a finite-difference method. Results compare well with available experimental data.
