Abstract

The dependence of the convective heat transfer in the laminar boundary layer of slender cylinders which are either continuously moving or longitudinally blown at on the Prandtl number and the transverse curvature effect is presented. A similarity solution for strong transverse curvature and constant flow properties is derived. A finite difference procedure of high accuracy is developed and the influence of variable flow properties is discussed. With the assumption of constant flow properties the heat transfer rate is considerably overestimated in the range of practical interest for spinning processes.
