Abstract

The influence of altitude, free stream velocity, nose radius and body temperature on heat transfer in hypersonic stagnation point flow is investigated and an eduation for practical computation of the heat transfer rate is presented. This relation is valid for convective heating in air without ionization. All theoretical results, that were computed in a previous investigation which accounted for coupled rate chemistry, relaxation of internal molecular degrees of freedom, diffusion and other transport phenomena, are represented by this correlation with a mean relative error of less than 20 %.
