Abstract

The nonisothermal hot wire anemometry technique described by Chevray and Tutu has been simplified for constant temperature operation in air flows. The simplification permits the use of readily available instrumentation and results in an easy calibration procedure. Experimental verification of the proposed scheme was obtained for both mean and fluctuating velocity measurements. It was found that the empirical cooling law for fine wires formulated under steady state condition remains valid in fluctuating flows.
