Narrow Band Solutions of Radiative Transfer for Purely Absorbing Nongray Gases within a 3-Dimensional Cylindrical Enclosure

Abstract

In this paper some precise radiative transfer solutions for a black walled 3-dimensional cylindrical system filled with nongray gases are obtained. SNB(statistical narrow band) model and ray-tracing method with the TN quadrature set are used for finding nongray solutions. Three different cases are studied for different temperature and concentration profiles. Analytically obtained exact solutions are used to check the solutions obtained from the numerical method for the isothermal and homogeneous case. Although the solution method used in this study is not suitable for engineering purposes, the resulting solutions are proved to be quite accurate and the results presented in this paper can be used as reference solutions in developing various solution schemes for radiative transfer by nongray gas mixtures in cylindrical systems.
