Abstract

Data are given on the rate of bubble growth in water flashing at superheats of up to 70°F above the saturation temperature. The superheated condition was obtained by suddenly decompressing a heated pool. Observations were made using a high speed motion picture camera at speeds above 10,000 frames per second. As the superheat was increased, observed bubble growth rates were found to fall increasingly below those predicted from present mathematical models.
