Abstract

The two-phase pressure drop was measured for several contraction and expansion geometries, using steam and water at the following conditions: Pressure, 600 to 1400 psia (42.2 to 98.4 kg/cm2); Mass Flux, 0.25 × 106 to 2.0 × 106 lb/hr·ft2 (33.9 to 271.2 g/sec·cm2); Quality, 0 to 90 percent; and Flow Orientation, vertical upward, horizontal, vertical downward. High speed moving pictures were taken of the flow pattern. Models were developed that predict values for the pressure loss across contractions and expansions which are in good agreement with measured values.
