PROBLEMS OF GETTING CHARACTERISTICS OUT OF QUENCHING EXPERIMENTS USEFUL TO CONTROL THE HEAT TREATMENT OF METALLIC MATERIALS
Abstract
Difficulties in yielding characteristics (applicable to steel hardening) from quenching tests in evaporating liquids are pointed out. A decesive characteristic, the rewetting rate, new in the field of hardening, is introduced. For measuring the rewetting rate, a new kind of measuring method (on the basis of conductivity measuring) is used. Furthermore, the applicability of the characteristics yielded to steel hardening is manifested.
