Abstract

The influence of electric fields on condensation heat transfer on a horizontal tube was reported in [1]. In these experiments high values of the electric field strength were used. In the present paper the influence of electric fields is investigated at moderate levels which do not present breakdown problems. It is this mode of operation which is interesting for industrial application of this technique.
Experimental data is presented regarding the condensation of refrigerants Rll, R113 and R114. A theoretical model is presented which predicts the improvement of the heat transfer coefficient due to the presence of an electric field. This model is also valid when no electric field is used and as such gives an improvement on the Nusselt-model.
