Abstract

For utilizing the waste hot water, advanced condensers with higher performance have been studied by applying electric fields. In this report, electro-hydro-dynamical (EHD) pseudo-dropwise condensation has been experimentally clarified from the basic standpoint. The EHD pseudo-dropwise condensation could be realized only for the thin film in such cases as that the large amount of condensate was removed by using helical wire electrodes. At first, the EHD surface granulation phenomenon of the thin liquid film on the horizontal plate in uniform electric fields was researched by using silicon oil instead of fron( R-113 ) for preventing the evaporation of liquid. The film thickness was decreased to about one-third due to the formation of drops and the area of the thinned film part was become over 50% of the total area. The ratio of the film thickness of the thinned part to the initial thickness was decreased in proportion to the electric fields but in inverse proportion to the initial film thickness. Nextly, condensation heat transfer coefficients of R-113 outside of a vertical tube was increased up to 4.5 times larger than those without electric fields by the realization of EHD pseudo-dropwise condensation.
