HEAT TRANSFER ENHANCEMENT DOWNSTREAM OF VORTEX GENERATORS ON A FLAT PLATE
Abstract
Measurements of the enhancement of convection coefficients on the surface of a flat plate by use of vortex generators are presented. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between the geometry and the augmentation of the local and overall coefficients for three low levels of increasing free stream velocity. Spanwise local coefficients were found to vary with the spanwise spacing of generator blades. The magnitude of enhancement varied with blade height and spacing. Spanwise averaged and overall coefficients were found from the local data. The overall enhancement was correlated with the blade spacing to height ratio and the ratio of blade height to boundary layer thickness at the entrance to the generator blade row.
