Abstract

A mathematical model has been developed to predict the sodium and water/steam flows and temperatures in straight tube and U-tube steam generators of a fast reactor power station. The model predicts the steady state performance of a group of tubes and accounts for thermal mixing in the sodium by molecular and turbulent diffusion and by transverse convection. The code may be used to assess the effects on steam generator performance of plugged tubes, sodium by-passing or non-uniform sodium inlet temperatures and flows. Alternatively the code may be used to determine the water side tube orifice distribution which is required to restore uniform temperatures in the steam generator or to optimise power output.
