Abstract

We investigated numerically natural convection flow and natural convective heat transfer in rectangular three dimensional small aspect ratio enclosures for inclination angles of 90°, 60° and 45°
The Rayleigh number varied between 104 and 106. The aspect ratio Ax has been varied between 0.1 and 1.0 and the aspect ratio Az has been Az = Ax, Az = 1 and Az = 10. The heat transfer results showed that the influence of Az on the heat transfer becomes significant for Az values smaller than 1. Secondly we found that the three dimensional heat transfer results for inclined situations for all aspect ratios Ax were significantly larger than the comparable two dimensional results, even for Az = 10 enclosures. This was due to a change of flow structure, which had been changed from a primarily two dimensional flow in the xy-plane for the vertical situation to a combined flow in the xy-plane and the yz-plane for inclined situations.
