Abstract

A Plexiglas column equipped with a seven tube bundle is employed to determine the air holdup and heat transfer coefficient in air-water, and air-water-magnetite powders of different sizes and concentrations in the slurry. These results are compared with the corresponding data for the case of a single probe to establish the influence of internals in the column on these two properties. These data are interpreted in terms of mechanistic details as inferred from the measurements of temperature fluctuation history data of a local element on the heat transfer surface. The results are also compared with the predictions of model correlations.
