Abstract

Mixed convection melting of a low Prandtl number substance confined to a rectangular enclosure is studied numerically. It is found that the relative magnitude of the buoyancy and inertia forces strongly influence the melting process. The highest melting rates are obtained when these forces are of the same order of magnitude and in opposite directions.
