Rapid Transient Heat Transfer of Near-Critical Carbon Dioxide

Rapid transient free-convective heat-transfer characteristics from a horizontal platinum wire in supercritical carbon dioxide were studied experimentally. Time history of correlations between heat flux and superheat was shown for various stepwise heat-inputs and a comparison of the transient heat-transfer characteristics between supercritical and sub critical CO2 was made. In the case of transient heat transfer to supercritical CO2, the occurrence of a bubble-like structure was observed.
