Abstract

Heat transfer from a fluidized bed to surrounding walls is influenced by the thickness of the gas layer between the particles and the wall. For circulating beds, visual observations, impact probes and heat transfer results have been used to study the gas layer. The gas layer thickness is found to be less than one particle diameter. A similar gas layer is found between a bubbling bed of large particles and an immersed horizontal tube.
