Abstract

There have been reports that heat transfer coefficients in convection-dominated flow boiling exceed the coefficients in condensation under similar local conditions of two-phase flow at high quality. In this paper we assess the possible enhancement of boiling heat transfer by static bubbles at wall nucleation sites that are dormant rather then active. It is shown that such bubbles can contribute to heat transfer but not enough to explain the reported differences between convective boiling and convective condensation.
