Abstract

This paper presents a transient two-dimensional model for gas-loaded thermosyphons, which includes the falling condensate film and the conjugate heat transfer through the wall. The complete transient two-dimensional conservation equations are solved for the vapor and nonconden-sible gas, and the liquid film is modeled using a quasi-steady Nusselt-type solution. To examine the effects of vapor compressibility and the presence of the noncondensible gas on thermosyphon operation, both a low-temperature thermosyphon and a high-temperature thermosyphon are simulated.
