COMPUTATIONAL STUDY OF AEROSOL PARTICLE DEPOSITION IN TURBULENT FLOWS
Abstract
Particle deposition in turbulent flow is studied for pipes and circular jet impactors using FLUENT 6.1.22. Over the range of Reynolds numbers from 5,000 to 50,000, different turbulent models such as k − ε, k − ω and RSM together with interpolation methods for the governing equations are tested and compared with experiment results. For low Reynolds number flows in pipes, k − ω predictions for particle deposition agree with experimental trends. Suitable models are recommended for different Reynolds number ranges. Consideration is given to improve numerical prediction methodology to reduce the discrepancy between calculated Lagrangian particle trajectories and real experiment processes. 2-D and 3-D flow cases are tested for jet-in-well inertial impactors, and the results compared with the experiment.
