Abstract

Smoke extraction system is one of the most important fire protection system, particularly in buildings with a large number of occupants. In designing a smoke extraction system, prescriptive code requirements are generally followed. One of the design parameters for a smoke extraction system is makeup air which is often measured in m3/s. Fire tests have been carried out for other purposes, however indicating that the smoke extraction system becomes ineffective when the makeup air is large. Accordingly further tests were conducted and this paper will provide the experimental test results and numerical simulations using a CFD software.
